Google is the world's largest internet search engine. According to Alexa.com, Google is ranked #1 with the highest traffic and page views of all sites in the world. Google started in a dorm room at Stanford University on a small server by Larry Page and Sergey Brin and quickly became very popular for finding information on the web. They picked the name Google because of the term "Googol" which is 1 followed by 100 zeros. They wanted a googol to relate to the number of searches they could process. The server started to take up too much bandwidth for the university and was shut down. Co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim writes a cheque for $100,000 to Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the creators of Google. They then started a server in Susan Wojcicki's garage at 232 Santa Margarita, Menlo Park. After they outgrew the garage, they moved to an office building with only 8 employees.Their first server, was housed in a chassis made completely out of Duplo building blocks because they were "more rigid" than other building blocks. In March 2004, Googleplex is opened (The Google campus at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway in Mountain View). Once the Google campus was setup and fully operational, Google has grown to include other services and will continue to grow.
